“Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spirituality is such a broad concept and the meaning of spirituality has expanded over the years. According to Oxford dictionary, spirituality is the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. The Cambridge dictionary of English defines spirituality as the quality that involves deep feelings and beliefs of a religious nature rather the physical parts of life.

Dr. Mayer Spencer from the Royal College of Psychiatrist wrote in an article, spirituality involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than myself, something more to being human than sensory experience and that the greater whole of which we part is cosmic or divine in nature. Spirituality means knowing that our lives have significance in a context beyond a mundane everyday existence at the level of biological needs that drive selfishness and aggression. It means knowing that we are a significant part of a purposeful unfolding of Life in our universe.

In olden days spirituality was based mostly on Religion and religious believes but modern day spirituality broaden the concept of spirituality to include enlightenment, consciousness, mediations, personal growth and much more.

From this it’ll will be fair to come to the conclusion that spirituality for an individual is based very much on person’s personal experience and their perspective.

I’m trying to broaden my knowledge in different genre. Spirituality is one of the genres that interests me. After searching through different platforms I’ve come up with ten spiritual books that I am interested in reading.

My list of ten books on spirituality include:

  • The Celestine Prophecy. Novel by James Refield.
  • The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success: A Practical Guide To The Fulfilment Of Your Dreams. Book by Deepak Chopra
  • Siddhartha. Novel by Hermann Hesse
  • The Untethered Soul:The Journey Beyond Yourself. Book by Michael Alan Singer
  • Autobiography of Yogi. Book by Paramahanasa Yogananda
  • Selfless. Book by Sri Ramakant Maharaj
  • Awareness: The Key To Living In Balance. Book by Osho
  • The Road Less Traveled: Timeless Edition. Book by M. Scott Peck
  • Way Of Peaceful Worrier: A Book That Changes Lives. Book by Dan Millman
  • The Seat Of The Soul. Book by Gary Zukav

My First Five Spirituality Books include:

  • 366 Days Of Wisdom. A Strong Wish To Move Up In Life. Book by Hsing Yun.

This book constitutes of a collection of essays for each day of the year (extra day to accomodate for leap year). Assays are based on how humanistic Buddhism applies to different aspects of our lives such as ethics, emotions, wealth, happiness, compassion, religion, education, celebrations, nature, government and our future. I bought this book to support the local Buddhist temple which happens to have a vegetarian cafe selling scrumptious meals.

  • The Secret. Book by Rondha Bryne.

This book is a well known self help book based on the belief of the law of attraction. This book was loan from an ex-colleague. It is definitely an interesting read.

  • The Alchemist.Novel By Paulo Coelho.

This book is about the pilgrimage of a shepherd boy’s life and emphasises on the importance of following one’s purpose, dreams and intuitions. It confirmed my own analysis on a person’s life. Life is a human beings very own path on which one walks alone, meeting and connecting with many, parting with them, facing obstacles, disappointments, joys, love, and all types of emotions and that is basically what life is….a long journey.

  • Shrimat Bhagwat Gita.

This book a holy scripture. It is basically dialogue taking place between Arjuna and Krishna where Krishna unveils the ultimate science of the universe using philosophy, ethics, politics, moral duties of a leader and so much more.
